Geckofied Projects

Goring Hardware

Goring Hardware has been serving the village of Goring-on-Thames and its wider community for more than 20 years. The store carries over 10,000 products – essential- as well as non-essential items for trade, DIY and home – as well as offering numerous related services.

With their extensive range, and the products changing from day to day, the client wanted a new website to reflect the scope and nature of their offering, without the need to list each one. They also wanted a site that would provide a platform for easily promoting their services, new products and any special offers through pop-ups and links to other social media platforms.

This website needed building from scratch, so we started by mapping out the entire product: how it should look and feel, what it needed to do, and defining the goals with the client.

It was quickly agreed that we needed a gallery of products on the homepage, and that the products and services pages would be built using tabs to give the user the clearest overview of the offerings, and the simplest navigation from the landing page.

Next we got to work on the content. We needed clear wording, good quality images and a design theme. The hardware’s branding is black and white, but we soon decided the site needed more colour and chose a sage green theme to brighten up the pages and reflect the nature of home and garden.

With the design basics established, Peter started on development. He used WordPress, together with CSS and Javascript, and the main build took two weeks. The launch was followed by testing and monitoring of the site, and this is ongoing.

We at Goring Hardware Ltd wanted a website that was modern, user friendly both on computer and mobile phone. We approached Gecko, who created exactly what we wanted from scratch. We found the team at Gecko listened to our requirements, were very professional in their approach, willing to adapt and change where necessary. Peter and Carry gave us creative advice along with visualised options which made it so much easier and quicker to create. We definitely recommend them, as they are small team and bring a professional, personal approach and we now have a modern website that has already elevated our shop profile in and around the Goring on Thames area.
